Your heart and your treasure

“For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.” Mt 6:21

The Amplified Bible expresses the above verse in clearer words: “for where your treasure is, there your heart [your wishes, your desires; that on which your life centers] will be also.” The accumulation of money and the treasures of this earth have ways of influencing our relationships with God.

It is either you have a treasure in this earth or you have one in heaven; not both. Some may deceive themselves that they can have it both ways. Sooner or later, one of them will claim allegiance over your heart, and you will be forced to choose. The rich fool in Lk 12:16-21 was thinking of building a bigger ban and feasting, while a heavenly minded believer will be giving it back to the spread of the gospel.

“No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.” Mt 6:24
