Virtuous Women (2)
Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies. Pro. 31:10
Abigail
Abigail means ’cause of joy’ or ‘father’s joy’ n Hebrew. Like Ruth, she lived up to her name by taking the joy in her life to her marriage, even though she was married to a foolish man, Nabal. When she heard that trouble was coming to her household through David and his men, due to the ungrateful and insulting attitude of her husband, Nabal, she quickly rose to the occasion to advert the disaster and death coming (1 Sam. 25).
Remarkable Things About Abigail
1. Abigail was a wise and a virtuous woman married to a wealthy man.
2. When she saw death approaching her husband due to his reckless actions, she used her wisdom to save her husband’s life. 1 Sam. 25:14-28
3. The attack planned by David would have been an opportunity for Abigail to get rid of her foolish husband, instead she stood in the gap for her husband. “The heart of her husband safely trusts her…” Pro. 31:11 NKJV. Can this be said of you today?
4. Abigail was a woman who knows the right thing to do, and she wasted no time to do it. 1 Sam. 25:17-20.
5. Abigail, in her wisdom and discernment knew that David will be king over Israel in the future. 1 Sam 25: 29-31. “And it shall come to pass, when the Lord has done for my lord according to all the good that He has spoken concerning you, and has appointed you ruler over Israel,” vv 30.
Abigail was a home builder, a protector to her marriage and family. She saw evil coming and she stood in the gap. This is what God expects from every husband and wife there, to stand in the gap for their families. Are you ready to be the Abigail in your family?
