They are spirit and they are life

“It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, [they] are spirit, and [they] are life.” Jn 6:63

Jesus Christ said his words are spirit and life. This means, the more you spend time with the word of God, the more of the life of God that flows into you. The word of God is like water that cleanses us, as we soak ourselves in it. It also makes us to be spiritually fruitful. “Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you.
Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me.
I am the vine, ye [are] the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.” Jn 15:3-5.

The words of the devil are also spirit, and they are death. It pollutes our spirits and causes us to commit sin. Mind the person and music you listen to, the books you read, the movie you watch, and the company you keep. There may be death in the pot, 2Ki 4:40. Words have ways of acquiring the spirit behind them to minister life or death to the hearer, depending on the source of the word.

This is a call to daily renew our minds with the word of God, so that we can bring His Spirit and life into us. “And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what [is] that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.” Ro 12:2.

Prayer
O God my Father, help me to hunger and thirst for your word above all things.
