The Test of Obedience (2)
“Will the LORD be pleased with thousands of rams, or with ten thousands of rivers of oil? shall I give my firstborn for my transgression, the fruit of my body for the sin of my soul?” Mic 6:7
When God asked Abraham to sacrifice his son Isaac to him, it was a test of the loyalty of Abraham to God, as the Bible later revealed to us. God did not want Isaac to die; He abhorred human sacrifice, Lev 20:1-5. There is nothing we can give God that can make us to be righteous before Him. God said, “If I were hungry, I would not tell you; For the world is Mine, and all its fullness.” Ps 50;l:15 NKJV
Most often, because we are not mature enough in our faith and walk with God, we allow what He gave us to enjoy to start controlling us and then turned us away from Him. God trained Abraham to excel in His walk with Him, and for this He blessed Abraham bountifully. God tested Abraham so that today we can learn from him and emulate his walk with God. “Do you not know that to whom you present yourselves slaves to obey, you are that one’s slaves whom you obey, whether of sin leading to death, or of obedience leading to righteousness?” Rom 6:16 NKJV. God did not want anything to control us or bring us into bondage, be it physical, material, financial or spiritual blessings. Whatever God gave you and you cannot give back to God has become your master.
God gave Adam many choices of fruits to eat in the Garden of Eden, yet he failed the test of obedience by eating the forbidden fruit, and lost all benefits. We should not be like Lucifer who allowed the beauty and the position God gave him to enter into his head. At the end he lost his position in Heaven.
You may not see the big picture of what God is doing in your life now, but do not get discouraged; you just need to trust Him and obey Him. “Jesus’ mother then told the servants, “Do whatever he tells you.”” Jn 2:5 GNT. Like Abraham, there is a great reward in obeying God.
“Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.” Ja 1:2-4 ESV.
Prayer
1. O God my Father, help me pass the test of love for you above all others.
2. O God my Father, like Abraham, help me to pass the test of prompt obedience to you.
3. O God my Father, Help me to finish well, in Jesus name.
