The Standard of God (1)
For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, Rm 3:23 NKJV
The glory we are speaking of here is the present one, that is, the glory which comes from the favour and approval of God, not yet the future glory of believers. The Bible said everyone has missed the mark. As descendants of Adam, we are all born with imperfections; we inherit the sinful nature from him. It does not matter whether you are actively commiting sins or not, you don’t measure up to God’s standard of holiness or righteousness. “Surely there is not a righteous man on earth who does good and never sins.” Ec 7:20 ESV
Suppose we are to have a jumping competition and aim to touch the roof of a three storey building, no one will win. It doesn’t matter whether you jumped higher than me or not; all of us did not meet up. In the same way, we may think that we are a better person than the other, but in comparison to God’s standard, we have all failed. “But we are all like an unclean thing, And all our righteousnesses are like filthy rags; We all fade as a leaf, And our iniquities, like the wind, Have taken us away.” Is 64:6
“God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.” Ro 5:21 NIV. The only way we can measure up to the standard of God is by accepting the sacrifice of Jesus Christ, His Only Son, on the cross for our sins. No matter what else we try outside Christ, we will always fall short of the glory of God.
Prayer
Lord Jesus Christ, I acknowledge your sacrifice for me when you took my place on the cross 2,000 years ago. Come into my life now and restore the glory of God in me. Amen
