The Lord’s Prayer: Our Father
“Our Father which art in heaven…” Mt 6:9
Our Father which art in heaven. This is the basis of our prayers to God. We have a relationship with Him. He is our Father, who is in Heaven, (to distinguish Him from other fathers); He is everywhere. We can say ‘my Father’, in private prayers. After his ressurection, Jesus appeared to Mary, and said, “…I am ascending to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.” Jn 20:17 NIV
Even though God created all, He is not the Father to everyone due to their rebellion. Jesus said to some Jews, “Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do…” Jn 8:44. The Fatherhood of God has its ground in the union with the Eternal Son, Jesus Christ, which makes us also sons of God. “But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God…” Jn 1:12
Prayer
My Father and my God, I receive your salvation through Jesus Christ.
