The Faithful Messenger (1)
“Like the cold of snow in time of harvest Is a faithful messenger to those who send him, For he refreshes the soul of his masters.” Pro 25:13 NKJV
A messenger is a person on a mission or carrying a message. The mission or message of a messenger is always spelt out. In Genesis 24, Abraham’s eldest servant was a messenger with a clearly defined mission: to go to Abraham’s country and people, and find a wife among them for Abraham’s son, Isaac. He was a trustworthy servant, that was why his master, Abraham, could entrust him with so great a task and committed so much resources into his hand to facilitate the mission. “Then the servant took ten of his master’s camels and departed, for all his master’s goods were in his hand. And he arose and went to Mesopotamia, to the city of Nahor.” Gen 24:10 NKJV
A Messenger Without a Message
A messenger without a message or a mission is a failure and a confusion waiting to happen. Those that send themselves will have nothing to say. “And Ahimaaz the son of Zadok said again to Joab, “But whatever happens, please let me also run after the Cushite.” So Joab said, “Why will you run, my son, since you have no news ready?”” 2 Sam 18:23 NKJV. So Ahimaaz outran the first messenger, but when he got to the king, he had no message. “The king said, “Is the young man Absalom safe?” Ahimaaz answered, “When Joab sent the king’s servant and me your servant, I saw a great tumult, but I did not know what it was about.”
And the king said, “Turn aside and stand here.” So he turned aside and stood still.” 2 Sam 18:29-30 NKJV.
“Moreover it is required in stewards that one be found faithful.” 2 Cor 4:2 NKJV. The faithfulness of a messenger is dependent on how clearly he followed the instructions and the tasks given to him by his master. Abraham’s servant was faithful, and his mission was successful. The question today is, are you a faithful messenger? Can God trust you with an assignment? May we be found faithful, in Jesus name. Amen.
Prayer
1. O God my Father, help me to be a faithful messenger.
2. Any power that wants to steal my message from me, die.
3. My Father my God, order my steps to move at the the right time, and to do all things to your glory, in Jesus name.
