Immanuel: God is with us
Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel. Is 7:14
Christmas is fast approaching again; and everywhere everybody is preparing for the holidays or break, including non Christians and corporate organisations. Some may refuse to celebrate Christmas because of church doctrines, others may say that December 25 is not actually the birthday of Jesus Christ; none of these really matters. What matters is that Jesus Christ is the reason for the season and celebrations.
Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son… The prophet Isaiah prophesied the birth of the Saviour of the world a little less than a thousands years before the birth of Christ. God announced through the prophet that he is going to give the world His Son, Is 9:6.
They shall call his name Immanuel… “Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.” Mt 1:23. Jesus Christ is God with us; God came down in the flesh and dwelled among us. “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God…
And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.” Jn 1:1,14.
Christmas is not about the date, it is about the celebrations of the love of God for mankind. “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” Jn 3:16. If you have not yet met Jesus Christ, this is a good time to invite him into your life as your Lord and Saviour.
