I will not let You go unless You Bless me (3)
…But Jacob replied, “I will not let you go unless you bless me. Ge 32:26 NIV
When many of us have the opportunity to ask God for things, we asked wrongly. “You ask and do not receive, because you ask amiss, that you may spend it on your pleasures.” Ja 4:3 NKJV. In 2Ch 1:7-12, God appeared to king Solomon in a dream and gave him a blank cheque; “Ask! What shall I give you?” vv 7. Solomon wisely asked for wisdom to rule God’s people. God blessed Solomon with more than he asked for because he asked wisely. Solomon chose wisdom instead of asking for the lives of his enemies.
Jacob, a Spiritually Transformed Man
“…I will not let you go unless you bless me.” vv 26. Jacob was now a spiritually matured man; he has truly encountered God and all carnality is gone. Jacob did not asked the angel to help him destroy his brother, Esau, coming against him with 400 soldiers. Esau was now the least of his problems; he asked for God’s blessings and that was what he got. Then the angel blessed him and changed his name, Ge 32:27-29. All the wives, children, livestock and servants that Jacob had was not equal to this blessing from the angel.
“Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us.
And if we know that He hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we have asked of Him.” 1Jn 5:14-15 NKJV. The secret to answered prayers is asking according to the will of God. “When a man’s ways please the Lord, He makes even his enemies to be at peace with him.” Pr 16:7. Jacob has now righted his ways with God, and God took care of the problem between him and Esau his brother, Ge 33:1-17. Amend your ways with God today; stop chasing enemies and start chasing Jesus. All our conflicts are instigated by Satan, 2Co 10:3-5; however, if we submit to God, Satan will flee away from us, Ja 4:7.
Prayer
O God my Father, in the conflicts of life, do not let me lose focus of you; help me to chase Jesus Christ instead of chasing enemies. Bless me today just as you blessed Jacob, in Jesus name. Amen.
