I will not let You go unless You Bless me (1)
Then the man said, “Let me go, for it is daybreak.” But Jacob replied, “I will not let you go unless you bless me.” Ge 32:26 NIV
The account of Ge 32:24-32 is an eye-opener in prayer and persistence. When you get to that level where it is only prayer that can save you, if you failed to pray, then you become history. “If you faint in the day of adversity, Your strength is small.” Pr 24:10 NKJV . The life story of Jacob has been that of deception, struggles and running away. Now he has gotten to a point in his life where his wisdom could no longer save him, but only God. His brother, Esau, was coming against him with 400 armed men, Ge 32:6. Naturally, Jacob was afraid for his wife and children.
Smartness cannot always Win
“So Jacob was greatly afraid and distressed; and he divided the people that were with him, and the flocks and herds and camels, into two companies.
And he said, “If Esau comes to the one company and attacks it, then the other company which is left will escape.” Ge 32;7-8 NKJV. If you have always rely on your own wisdom or physical abilities to win the battles of life, you need to learn from Jacob’s story. After all these arrangements, even with gifts of animals sent in advance to appease his brother, Jacob knew that he needed Divine Intervention. So he waited behind to pray all night while all his family and livestock crossed over to the other side of the river.
In the challenges of life, some people only try prayers as the last option. No wonder their prayers are not answered. “But thou hast not called upon me, O Jacob; but thou hast been weary of me, O Israel.” Is 43:22. When we don’t pray, there is nothing God can do to help us. “For whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.” Ro 10:13 NKJV. Don’t wait till it becomes an emergency before calling on God; come to God everyday in worship and prayers. Come to Him in the name of Jesus Christ, His only Son.
Prayer
O God that delivered Jacob from his afflictions, deliver me from all my troubles today, grant me total testimonies, in the name of Jesus. Amen.
