He gives help to the destitute (1)
For he will deliver the needy when he cries for help, The afflicted also, and him who has no helper. Ps 71:12 NASB
A destitute is an extremely poor person; no real quality of life. A destitute has no money, no food, no job, no home and other necessary ingredients of life. A homeless person is a destitute. A homeless person lives in the streets; he is a tramp or a bum. Nevertheless, God cares for the destitute. “He will regard the prayer of the destitute, and not despise their prayer.” Ps 102:17.
David days as a destitute:
For years when David was running away for his life from King Saul, David was a destitute; him and several others with him. He escaped death from Saul several times, 1 Sam 21-24. David said, “This poor man cried, and the LORD heard him, and saved him out of all his troubles.” Ps 34:6. Even in his acute needs, David drew closer to God. Ps 34, 18:3, 54:7.
“You have lived on the earth in luxury and in self-indulgence. You have fattened your hearts in a day of slaughter.” Ja 5:5 ESV. Those that are satisfied with the pleasure of life without Christ are dead while they live as destitute. A life without Jesus Christ is a life of destitution. Jesus is the real life -giver. If you will cry out to him today for help, he will deliver you out of your physical and spiritual poverty, Ps 22:24.
Prayer
I am poor and needy O God, just like David; have mercy on me and save me today from my physical and spiritual destitution, in the name of Jesus. Amen.
