Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? (2)
“And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit was giving them utterance.” Ac 2:4
Preparation to receiving the baptism of the Holy Spirit
There are instances in the Bible where the Holy Spirit baptism came automatically on people. These are already disciples or those receiving the preaching of the gospel. Apart from this, to receive the Holy Ghost baptism, there must be a level of preparation or readiness on your own part. Then God will do the rest when you are ready.
1. Salvation
The first step is salvation. The baptism of the Holy Spirit is for the children of God – those who have repented of their sins. As many as received Jesus Christ as their Lord and Saviour, he gave them the power to become the sons and daughters of God (Job 1:12). “Peter said to them, “Repent, and each of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.” Ac 2:38
2. Desire the gift
Desire the gift of the Holy Ghost. It is your Heavenly Father’s wish to give you the gift. If you are yet to receive it, then have a strong desire for the baptism. “For the promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off, as many as the Lord our God will call to Himself.” Ac 2:39
3. Ask the Father
Just as you ask the Heavenly Father for things of the flesh (healing, money, jobs, etc), ask Him also for the Holy Ghost baptism. “Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you:” Mt 7:7. Jesus Christ referred to the Holy Ghost as a good gift. “If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall [your] heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?” Lk 11:13. God wants to give you the Holy Ghost. Therefore, the Holy Ghost baptism is yours for the asking.
