Guard your tongue
A charge for the New Year (8)
Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers. Ep 4:29.
By their words, you shall know them. If you have a conversation with someone for ten minutes, you should be able to judge what sort of character he or she is at the end. “The words of a wise man’s mouth [are] gracious; but the lips of a fool will swallow up himself.” Ecc 10:12. Many have lost some great relationship or some good business by just speaking the wrong words. “
Let your speech [be] alway with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man.” Co 4:6.
This verse should be your guide whenever you talk throughout this year and beyond.
…minister grace unto the hearers. The Bible says, “One who loves a pure heart and who speaks with grace will have the king for a friend.” Pr 22:11 NIV. As Christians, it is not enough for us to be virtuous and upright, but we should also have the gift of graciousness of speech, winning manner in conversation, so that we can attach to ourselves friendship in high places. “Obscene stories, foolish talk, and coarse jokes—these are not for you. Instead, let there be thankfulness to God.” Ep 5:4 NLT. Some have joked themselves out of promotion at workplace, while some have landed in deep troubles all because they cannot guard their tongues. “Like a maniac shooting flaming arrows of death is one who deceives their neighbor and says, “I was only joking!” Pr 26:18-19 NIV.
This New Year holds a lot of blessings for us physically and spiritually, and we should not squander them by careless talks. We will use our tongues wisely and profitably this year, in Jesus name.
Prayer
Blessed Holy Spirit, help me to put a seal on my tongue throughout this year and beyond. Help me to always say the right thing at the right time, also help me to know when to keep quiet. Help me to speak like Jesus, in Jesus name. Amen.
