God’s Call (4)

For Demas has forsaken me, having loved this present world… 2 Tim. 4:10

Some people started well with serving God, but along the line, they stopped and went back to the world. In Col. 4:4 and Plm 1:24, Paul mentioned Demas with Luke, Mark and Aristarchus as fellow labourers. However, Demas later abandoned Paul, the servant of God and his mentor, for the pleasure of this world. Demas failed to finish well.

Those Who Aborted God’s Call on their Lives
1. Lucifer: He suddenly developed his own agenda, different from the one the Most High God assigned for him. He was cast out of heaven. Rev. 12:7-12
2. Adam: He deliberately chose to disobey God by following his wife to eat the forbidden fruit. Mankind became cursed because of him. Gen. 3
3. Cain: Being the firstborn of Adam, Cain’s generations would have given birth to the Messiah. Instead he received a curse for murdering his brother, Abel. Gen. 4:3-16
4. Saul: As the first King of Israel, he started well; alas, he did not finished well. The spirit of God left him and he ended up consulting a necromancer. He died in the battle against Israel’s enemies, the Philistines. 1 Sam. 28:4-25, 31:1-10
5. The Young Prophet: His ministry started well, but was cut short suddenly. He was garrulous and disobeyed God’s instruction not to stop over in any house. He was slain by a lion. 1 Ki 13:1-32

Many who rushed into the work of ministry have difficulties in finishing well. This is because they lacked a trustworthy mentor and they were not well grounded in the word of God. It is sad nowadays when you see a recently converted occult master or hip hop artist holding church crusades. What are they going to preach or teach? These people are supposed to be still under serious discipleship, where they will learn the New Creation realities before holding a microphone to preach to people. You can’t give what you don’t have. No wonder when they returned to the world, serving Satan. To avoid such a pitfall, it is good to submit oneself to a thorough discipleship training.

Prayer
O God my Father, help me to start well and finish well. Every spirit of this world in my life, I command you to depart from me. I will not end God’s call in my life in a disaster, in the name of Jesus. Amen.
