God’s Call (2)
Then the LORD called to Samuel, and he answered, “Here I am.” 1 Sam. 3:4 BSB
Samuel
Samuel was 12 years old when he first heard the call of God. Samuel initially assumed the call was coming from Eli and went to Eli to ask what he wanted. “Now Samuel did not yet know the LORD, because the word of the LORD had not yet been revealed to him. Once again, for the third time, the LORD called to Samuel. He got up, went to Eli, and said, “Here I am, for you have called me.”
Then Eli realized that it was the LORD who was calling the boy. “Go and lie down,” he said to Samuel, “and if He calls you, say, ‘Speak, LORD, for Your servant is listening.’ ” So Samuel went and lay down in his place. Then the LORD came and stood there, calling as before, “Samuel! Samuel!” And Samuel answered, “Speak, for Your servant is listening.”” 1 Sam. 3:7-10 BSB. Thus, the boy Samuel, with proper guidance from the older and more experience Eli, was able to recognise and answer the call of God. This underlines the place and importance of a spiritual mentor in answering the call of God.
“Because I have called, and ye refused; I have stretched out my hand, and no man regarded;” Pro. 1:24. The problem in your life either remains or goes away, depending on your attitude to God’s call on your life. For all that reject the call of God, there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth on the last day, Lk 13:28, Mt 13:49-50. “Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.” Isa. 1:18
Some people are waiting to hear God’s voice like Abraham or Samuel before they respond to Him. This rarely happens today because God has given us His written word, the Bible; it contains God’s word to you for today. “But Abraham replied, ‘They have Moses and the prophets; let your brothers listen to them.’: Lk 16:19. Read the word of God, listen to the preachers in the streets, buses and even on the pulpit calling you to repentance. God wants to use you, surrender your life to him today and stop running away from Him.
Prayer
O God my Father, save me and use me today. I am available for your use; I quit running away from you. I want to be the man/woman God uses, in the name of Jesus. Amen.
