Christ suffered for us

But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.” Is 53:5

But he was wounded for our transgressions…” All Christ’s sufferings was for you: the bruises from the whips, the nails on his hands and feet, the crown of thorns on his head, the piercing by the sword, the slaps, spits, insults, etc. As Carl Boberg composed, “That on the cross, my burdens gladly bearing, He bled and died to take away my sin:”. Everything the Saviour went through on the cross, he did it for you and me. Christ was not guilty of any sin; He did this to save us from our sins.

The chastisement of our peace was upon him;”. Chastisement means physical punishment. Christ received beatings or scourging so that we can have peace with God. He paid for our peace with the pains he received on the cross. He bled and suffered for us. What a loving Saviour!

And with his stripes we are healed.” The stripes are the lashings of the whips on our Saviour’s body. As the whips hit his body, it leaves marks or bruises. By his stripes we are healed. “Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.” 2 Pe 2:24. By Jesus stripes, we have healings from our sins and diseases. No wonder the prophet of old cried out, “Heal me, O LORD, and I shall be healed; save me, and I shall be saved: for thou art my praise.” Je 17:14.

Let us draw closer to Christ for our physical and spiritual healings. He bore our sins on the cross; he paid all the price. Salvation is ours; healing and deliverance is our bread. Draw to the cross; come to the Saviour.

Prayer:
Father God, I pray that the death of Jesus Christ, your Holy Son, will not be in vain in the life of your child reading this. Heal him/her physically and spiritually, in Jesus name. Amen.”
