Children Are God’s Heritage (1)

“Lo, children are an heritage of the LORD: and the fruit of the womb is his reward.” Ps 127:3

The word ‘heritage’ means gift, inheritance or legacy. Children are gifts from God. This means that if you are fortunate to have children, see them as belonging to God, and that you are just a caretaker. Understanding this perspective is important as it it will influence how you raise the children. “When Esau looked up and saw the women and children, he asked, “Who are these with you?” Jacob answered, “These are the children God has graciously given your servant.”’ Gen 33:5 BSB. Jacob had the right mindset about children.

“As arrows are in the hand of a mighty man; so are children of the youth.” Ps 127:4. Here, the Bible described children  as an arrow. There are reasons for this:
– The preparation of a good arrow takes time
– A mighty man or a warrior knows how to shoot an arrow to hit a desired target.
– As an arrow has a target, everyone of our children have been chosen by God for one purpose or the other.

Every child has a destiny of his or her own. We are all created in the image of God, and each child’s soul matters before God. “Behold, all souls are mine; as the soul of the father, so also the soul of the son is mine…” Ezek 18:4. It is a tragedy when a child, as an arrow, ends up in the hands of a senseless man or woman. That arrow has gotten a bad start. Raising godly children is a whole work or ministry on it’s own, and it takes a relationship with God through Jesus Christ for a parent to do the job well. Determine from today that you will do your best to prepare well the arrows that God has put in your hand.

Hear what God said of Abraham: “For I know him, that he will command his children and his household after him, and they shall keep the way of the LORD, to do justice and judgment…” Gen 18:19. Let God say the same of you today.

Prayer
1. O God my Father, do not let the enemy steal my heritage.
2. My Father my God, make me and the children you have gifted me signs and wonders in this generation.
3. Help me, O God, to raise godly children for you, in the name of Jesus.
