Be humble
A charge for the New Year (9)
Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves. Php 2:3 NIV.
There is this saying I came across, ‘be humble so that you don’t stumble’. This is a condensed form of the same warning from the Bible, ”Pride [goeth] before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall.” Pr 16:18. Pride is a trap by Satan for the soul of men, who wants people to fall into similar condemnation like him. Throughout this New Year and beyond, our humility should be genuine, and we should wear it like our garments everywhere we go. Because the humble man never thinks he knows it all, he receives extra helps from God. “…God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.” Ja 4:6.
We should learn humility from our Lord Jesus Christ; “Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage;
rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness.” Php 2:6-7 NIV. Our Saviour wants us to learn humility from him; “Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart…” Mt 11:29 NIV.
Be a team player this New Year. Don’t try to grab everything for yourself; share the praise or glory with others. Give others a chance and reject selfishness. Be diligent, honest and hardworking; let God promote you.
Prayer
Lord Jesus Christ, you said I should learn from you; help me to be meek and humble like you from now onwards. Remove every pride and selfishness from me; make me like you. Amen.
